Hot Water Cylinders

Renovating? Changing your Hot Water Cylinder?

Hot water cylinders periodically stop producing hot water. Most issues don’t require a plumber.  GT electrical can check and replace elements and thermostats.

GT Electrical connects all brands and models of hot water cylinders

  • New thermostats
  • New elements
  • Specialist elements – teflon coated
  • Renovating disconnection and reconnection
  • New house wiring.

Hot water cylinders –  Fault Finding

Water heater elements and the electrical wiring are the two most common problems with electric water heaters.

  • If you have hot water but it runs out quickly, your lower element/thermostat is probably at fault.
  • If your water heater seems slow to recover after using lots of hot water, check your upper element.

Points to Remember

  • To reduce heat loss, put a hot water cylinder wrap around the cylinder, and pipe insulation around the first metre of the hot water pipe, particularly if you have an older hot water cylinder installed pre-2002. They are available from hardware stores.
  • The system needs to be correctly set up to ensure the water in the tank is regularly heated to 60oC to prevent the growth of legionella bacteria.
